This case illustrates that digital mammography is superior to film screen technique in displaying these calcifications, because the skin and subcutaneous tissues are better visualized with the digital technique. Tangential views will distinguish skin calcifications from intraparenchymal ones. If they are superimposed upon the breast parenchyma, they may be mistaken for intraparenchymal calcifications. They are well defined, round or polygonal in shape, with lucent centers.
